Saturday 5th July 2008, Fribourg, Switzerland.
Dear Juventutem Friends,
As many of you are packing for WYD in Australia, I would like to request all to pray for this important event. Whether we are able to travel there or rather plan to attend some further Catholic events such as the RJC (www.rjc.asso.fr/) or the Juventutem international gathering in August (http://lepuy.juventutem.com/), we should keep the WYD as one of our main prayer intentions. Over 200 youths have already registered with Juventutem apparently. They receive the beautiful mission of bearing witness to the depth and value and beauty of the Roman traditions of the Church. Through their friendly and genuinely Catholic behavior, there are to demonstrate that such Roman traditions are capable of inspiring new generations and foster holiness among youths from all over the world. Many young people will be there and our prayer can help make this WYD a lasting spiritual experience. Like three years ago in Germany, many will partake in our liturgical program and will have their first glimpse and taste of what is now called the “extraordinary form of the Roman rite”. Let us be welcoming and generous in sharing with them this treasure which is not ours but the Church’s, and which it is our joy to forward and spread.
Let us also pray for the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, that his travel to Australia might bring to many, including us, the graces they need. In two days in particular, on July 7th, let us give thanks to God for all that has been already accomplished in the Church over the last 12 months since the publication of the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum.
News: We thank you for your prayers before and during the International Eucharistic Congress in Québec where, in collaboration with the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter, Juventutem had been able to offer a full liturgical and doctrinal program. It has been a true grace to be present during these beautiful days in Québec. On our website www.juventutem.org you will see various pictures and videos of this very important event. It was very appropriate indeed that through this program the extraordinary form of the Roman liturgy could be displayed in the Congress as a most valuable dimension in the Eucharistic cult. Juventutem shared a booth at the Exhibition Hall and many youths, adults and clergy came to ask about us. Our filial gratitude goes to Bishop André-Mutien Léonard of Namur (Belgium) who kindly offered a pontifical high Mass in Québec for us on the feast of St Aloysius Gonzaga, Patron of Youths, and delivered a vibrant homily, fostering among youths the desire for holiness. Very Rev. Fr John Berg, Superior General of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter, assisted the Bishop and was also able to speak with many of the pilgrims. I have left Québec on Monday last week and will depart for Australia tomorrow.
Juventutem intends to share a booth again at the Vocations Expo in Sydney (15-18 July) and you are all welcome to visit us there (please check later on our website for booth number, or look for the Juventutem flag). Pictures and videos should be posted again regularly on www.juventutem.org and we invite you to visit the website during WYD.
Cordially yours in Our Lord,
Fr Armand de Malleray, Eccles. Assist. Juventutem
