November: Presentation of Juventutem at the Una Voce International Open Forum, in Rome (Sunday 11 November 2008):

Several Juventutem members met in Rome on the occasion of the Una Voce International Federation (FIUV) Open Forum.

We had the deep joy of meeting with new Italian and Spanish members and supporters of Juventutem, as well as with several Juventutem cofounders (on May 24, 2006) from Spain, Russia and England. Juventutem Secretary David Oostveen and Juventutem Treasurer Cosimo Marti were also attending.

At the invitation of the FIUV, a brief presentation of Juventutem was delivered by Juventutem Ecclesiastical Assistant Fr Armand de Malleray. FIUV delegates were apparently pleased to hear about younger generations’ commitments with the Roman traditions of the Church. We had various informal meetings and meals together, and some Juventutem pilgrims attended Holy Mass at Saint Mary Major.

July 07: Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum:

The Juventutem International Federation expresses all its gratitude to the Common Father Pope Benedict XVI for the publication of the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum. In the cover letter to the bishops we read with emotion the following quote where the impact of the Gregorian Mass on "young persons" is described as the element having played a decisive part in improving the answer to the need for a clearer juridical regulation on the traditional Roman liturgy. Juventutem gives thanks to God for having been able to bear witness to the permanent value and power of sanctification of the Gregorian liturgy among today's youths:

"Immediately after the Second Vatican Council it was presumed that requests for the use of the 1962 Missal would be limited to the older generation which had grown up with it, but in the meantime it has clearly been demonstrated that young persons too have discovered this liturgical form, felt its attraction and found in it a form of encounter with the Mystery of the Most Holy Eucharist, particularly suited to them. Thus the need has arisen for a clearer juridical regulation which had not been foreseen at the time of the 1988 Motu Proprio."

This was confirmed by Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos in September 2005 in his answer to the magazine "30 DAYS" (click here for full Press Review and here for official Report) in an article under the following title: «Rapprochement by unhasty stages, but not too slow either», Interview with Cardinal Darío Castrillón Hoyos by Gianni Cardinale […]:
"Do you think they [i.e. the traditional priests] represent the legacy of a past in any case on the way to extinction?
CASTRILLÓN HOYOS: At the World Day of Youth in Cologne there was a considerable group of young people attached to the traditional mass. The echoes have been positive. And it shows how short-sighted it is to consider the traditionalist phenomenon as on the way to exhaustion. Not least because in the traditionalist world, in proportion, the number of priestly vocations is decidedly superior to that of many diocese in the Church."

We haven't forgotten that already in 2005 Pope Benedict XVI prayed for Juventutem:

"From protocol N. 11.234, from the Secretary of State dated July 22, 2005, addressed to Juventutem General Delegate:"The Holy Father has been informed that the Juventutem delegation will attend World Youth Day 2005 in Cologne. Please be assured that His Holiness is praying for all the groups who will gather for this significant occasion. With every good wish (...)".

Juventutem feels all the more encouraged to continue helping with the sanctification of youth worldwide through the Roman traditions of the Catholic Church.

June 24: Meeting in Dublin, Ireland:

On Sunday 24th June 2007, on the Feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist, Juventutem Eccl. Assist. Fr. de Malleray offered Mass in St. Audoen’s, High St., Dublin, (Ireland) at 11am. A meeting with members of Juventutem Ireland followed.

June 17: Juventutem Hong Kong representative in Paris (France) on Sunday 17 June 2007:

After Holy Mass offered by Juventutem Ecclesiastical Assistant - Mr. Cyril Law from Juventutem Hong Kong presented pictures on the traditional movement in Hong Kong and commented on Catholicism in China.

At the Rue du Bac chapel, Juventutem members standing (apart from young "Bénédicte"!) before the satue of Saint Catherine Labourée.

The Mother of God had appeared to Sister Labourée in 1830, showing her a medal to be made and distributed widely, as a powerful means to receive many graces from God.

Around the oval frame of the medal we read the words, "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you." In this brief prayer we find the truth of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, and Mary’s intercessory power with God for us who ask for her aid.

On the reverse side of the Medal we see a Cross, the symbol of Christ’s Redeeming Sacrifice on Mount Calvary for the salvation of the world.

At the "Missions Etrangères de Paris", Cyril Law is standing next to a reliquary at the MEP martyrs room (cf http://128.mepasie.net/2002-the-martyr-s-room.en-gb.14.27.content.htm)

Cyril Law and Fr. de Malleray standing below a reliquary at the MEP. Cyril being a Chinese, it was particularly moving for him to venerate in that room so many relics belonging to young French priests having suffered martyrdom in China and in other Asian countries where they had voluntarily been sent to spread the Gospel.

Thanks to Cyril for having met with Juventutem members in Europe! We hope to be able to meet again soon. We assure Cyril of our prayers for the traditional community in Hong Kong, and particularly for the local Juventutem youths.

May: Pilgrimage of Christendom from Paris to Chartres, France (26-27-28 May 2007):

Like last year, Juventutem youths walked the 104km from one cathedral to the other. We hope that many more pilgrims will join us in 2008!

 Deo...

Gratias... For so wonderful ...

A pilgrimage from Paris to Chartres...

With Juventutem!
